BlastGlass (a glassAdvantage abrasive media), is an alternative recycled glass sandblasting media that is safer, cleaner, and faster than garnet, silica sand or metallurgical slag media....plus its use directly benefits the environment.
Crushed glass eliminates the Silicosis hazard because it is a completely inert media that contains no free silica (less than 1%) or heavy metals and produces almost six times less dust than OSHA limits. Recycled glass dust is classified by OSHA/NIOSH as a “nuisance” dust. Comparatively, silica sand in its natural state has a crystalline structure that is a known airborne carcinogen, and studies have shown the potential for metallurgical slag abrasive to contain hazardous elements such as beryllium, chromium, lead, and arsenic. Equally important, BlastGlass is non-flammable and non-sparking for a safer work environment.
Non reactive and inert, it can be used near or around water. Our Blastglass abrasive is translucent allowing for increased visibility and operator production. It is non-toxic, odorless, and environmentally friendly. It delivers a more natural, whiter metal finish than other sandblasting abrasives.
Operators who use our abrasive have reported significantly less embedment issues – up to five times less than abrasive slag. The angular structure of Blastglass abrasive media promotes faster and more aggressive surface profiling and removal of epoxy paint, coal tar, vinyl polyurea, and elastomerics. BlastGlass is lighter weight than many slags which allows for faster production time and increased consumption efficiency.
Blastglass can be used for paint and rust removal, etching, polishing, or water jet cutting. We are confident you will appreciate the advantages of our BlastGlass media.
